Dandenong Ranges Open Studio

Thanks to all those who ventured out on the weekend to visit us as part of the Dandenong Ranges OS. It was great to talk to so many people about our work and for them to see the sculptures in their natural setting.

Little King

Still beavering away in preparation for our exhibition next month. This piece is now in the hands of Jude who will dress our king in readiness for the exhibition opening on the 17th of March at Burrinja. Hope to see you all there!!

Staring into the Giants Eye

Here is a hint of what we are working on for our first exhibition at Burrinja Arts Centre in March. 

The exhibition; "Journeys In - Journeys Out" is a collaboration with a local textile artist. We are loosely using the story of Gulliver's travels as our prompt for developing pieces that reflect how we can challenge our individual perspectives by abandoning the chains and anchors that bind us to our ingrained thoughts. 

This piece is about looking into the giants eye for a hint as to how his world might be different to us little people. 

Web of Life

A commissioned piece that I made over the new year period. I used recycled reenforcing rods to create the leaf shape and then created a web within this shape to remind us of our connection to all living things.

"If I only had a brain"

Here is the first juet scarecrow. He is ready to dance all the way to the Emerald City

"Babe in Arms"

The inspiration for this piece came when spending an extended period away from my children. I wanted to scoop them up and hold them tight just like when they were little babies. After a break from sculpting this piece poured out of me with the creative juices flowing strong.

ALIVE

I found it hard to get a good photograph of this sculpture as the mesh I used on the leaves doesn't show up very well. The steel mesh was fun to work with as it could be easily shaped and manipulated to get the leaf shape I was after. The shape and form of this sculpture was inspired by seeing my garden come alive as the  weather warms and spring leaves its mark.
